From October 1st we will start collecting payments via Direct Debit instead of by Standing Order.
Why is the SCA doing this?
The Standing Order system was set up in the early days of the SCA when there were not that many members. Now we have 300 members and. Every payment transaction has to be manually reconciled every month and it’s extremely time-consuming.
Additionally, we have found that members don’t really understand the breakdown of the fee that they pay to the SCA. With the Direct Debit, you’ll receive an invoice every month with the details of your membership payment and you’ll receive a month’s notice for the payment which will be taken and then 2nd notice 3 days before the funds leave your account.
How will this happen?
During the month of September, you will receive an email invoice from the SCA. Open the email and follow the instructions to set up the Direct Debit. It is a quick process which will only take a few minutes.
When will this happen?
You need to set up your new Direct Debit in September. No payment will be taken at that time.
Your first Direct Debit payment will come out of your account in October on the date which was specified in the Invoice you received in September.
What will happen to my current standing order?
Once your Standing Order for September has been paid out of your account, please cancel your Standing Order. We cannot cancel your Standing Order, only you can do this!
I forgot to set up my new Direct Debit, what do I do?
Every month you will receive an invoice from the SCA and you will be able to set up your Direct Debit from the new invoice. But really, please just set up your Direct Debit as soon as possible. If you don’t we will have to run two payment tracking systems in parallel and it will be extremely challenging.
